Health Board Supports Bullitt County Defense of Smoking Ban

THE RICHMOND REGISTER | BILL ROBINSON | DECEMBER 15, 2011 | The Madison County Health Board is adding its name to a friend-of-court brief in support of the Bullitt County Health Department’s appeal of a judge’s ruling against its smoking ban. In mid-September, Bullitt Circuit Judge Rodney Burress voided the Bullitt County Health Board’s smoking ban less that a week before it took effect.

Advocacy groups have fought tobacco companies for several years to increase public awareness of the dangers of smoking.

Local board members voted to provide the Bullitt board with $5,000 from money received from the University of Kentucky for consulting services provided by Health Department Director Scott Lockard.
