HCTC Becomes Tobacco Free

WYMT | JULY 1, 2015

The Hazard Community and Technical College is now tobacco free.

It is among other campuses in the Kentucky Community and Technical College system that adopted the rule.

Administrators said all tobacco products are banned, this includes cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and e-cigarettes.

They said this is part of their greater goal to encourage health and wellness on campus.

Student Services Vice President Germaine Shaffer said, “As everyone knows, Eastern Kentucky is an area that has a large population that have underlying health concerns so whatever we can do to help, we always try to do that”.

School officials said a safety team will enforce the new rule. However, they also said it is everyone’s responsibility on campus to encourage people to not smoke.
