Machir, McGinn Receive State Awards for Anti-tobacco Program

Lawrence County Health Department’s Carolyn McGinn, Tobacco Coordinator, and Patricia Machir, Tobacco Cessation Counselor, were recently recognized at the annual Rural Smoke-Free Communities Project Leadership Exchange in Lexington. They were presented with an engraved plaque by the Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy, honoring Lawrence County “for their tireless efforts in educating on secondhand smoke and promoting smoke-free policy”.

Presentation was made by Dr. Ellen J. Hahn and Monica Mundy. Dr. Hahn is a professor in the College of Nursing and College of Public Health at UK. She also directs the Clean Indoor Air Partnership and the Kentucky Center for Smoke-Free Policy. Ms. Mundy is Staff Associate with the Rural Smoke-free Communities Project at the Kentucky Center for Smoke-free Policy and is an Advisor to Lawrence County.
